Torpid
Adjective
Sluggish: dull; lacking in enthusiasm
Slow and lacking enthusiasm
I almost fell asleep while listening to Mr. Smedley's torpid lecture about the wonders of calculus. The lecture seemed to go on forever and was extremely dull, well you can see for your self... "You have the function, f(x), which is continuous on the interval [a,b]. You must then take the first derivative of the function (f'(x)) through the use of the power, quotient, or chain rules. Using this derivative, you can set it equal to zero to find the critical numbers on the interval [a,b]. These various critical numbers will tell you where the local minima and maxima are, but be careful, this doesn't necessarily mean there is a minimum or a maximum. It could just mean the graph is leveling off and continuing upwards (or downwards)." I was right about to fall asleep, but he then started talking about implicit differentiation and I perked right up!
